Suggested activity 1: recognizing the texture
In this phase understanding the texture and materials are the key. At first, we talk about the texture with kids.
Simple texture like paper or coated paper and the fact that water color painting is not good for coated paper as the colors slip should be explained. The other kind of paper like Parchment paper or tissue that can have a rough surface by coasting them with glue stick.
Suggested activity 2 recognizing the features of painting tools
The main reason behind understanding of the materials is to be more creative.
 The child should understand it.
If something is drawn by crayons then it is painted by watercolor or light paint crayons does not disappear or vice versa.
In the paintings below the lights, the gift,  the balloons and the candles are drawn by crayons then they are painted with watercolor without any problems. The child could see that the watercolor slip from the surface of the crayons and the original painting is the same.
